Rice County Economic Development initiated the new RICE COUNTY CA$H program the last week of March, 2008. The Rice County CA$H program is designed to keep spending within the county to enhance the businesses of our area. It is in the form of checks made out to the recipient and spendable within the county. Rice County Economic Development Director, Jill Nichols said that her office is in the process of contacting businesses in the county to explain the program and ask for their participation. If a Rice County business has not been contacted and wants more information they can call 257-5166.
“The merchants don’t have anything to lose with the program. The check cashes as a two party check. There are two stipulations: the check has to be spent for merchandise and not just cashed and it carries an expiration date of six months from the date”, explained Nichols. The checks are issued in small increments so that they are easier to spend entirely for purchases. They are not intended to replace the Lyons Chamber Bucks available at the Lyons Chamber office, but rather extend the concept to the entire county. It is the vision of the program for the Rice County CA$H checks to be purchased for gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, graduation, or any other special occasions. Businesses are welcome to purchase the checks for employee bonuses, Christmas bonuses, incentives or special benefits.
