Commissioner McCloud Presiding
Commissioner McCloud called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. in the Commissioners Room at the Courthouse.
Commissioner Wiens moved to approve the agenda with the addition of Marci Detmer at 9:45 and the minutes of the November 6th session with the correction to Paragraph 8 sentence 4 to reflect the amount that was approved and the amount that is still yet to be approved. The motion carried unanimously following a second by Commissioner.
There were no public comments.
Commissioner Wiens moved to adjourn from the Board of Rice County Commissioners and reconvene as the Board of Canvassers. The motion carried unanimously following a second by Commissioner Wilson.
Commissioner McCloud moved to adjourn from the Board of County Canvassers and reconvene as the Board of Rice County Commissioners.
Public Health Administrator Marci Detmer appeared to present updates to the Commissioners. She shared KBI statistical information regarding child molestation within Rice County. She also reported that the City of Lyons has the second highest number of reported cases in the State per capita. Marci reported that she is attempting to get a mini grant to assist in education of this problem. Commissioners expressed their support in this project that will take place January 24th and 25th.
Public Works Administrator Dennis Wray appeared to present updates. Dennis presented bids for 10 28x20x40 culverts as follows:
Welborn Sales $6,792.00
J & J Drainage $7,080.00
Commissioner Wiens moved to accept the bid from Welborn Sales in the amount of $6,792.00 for culverts. The motion carried unanimously following a second by Commissioner Wilson.
Commissioner McCloud discussed the replacement of the EMS Director vehicle and reviewed information presented for a Ford Explorer. EMS/EM Director Greg Klein appeared to discuss the information regarding the replacement vehicle. Commissioner Wiens moved to approve the purchase of a State surplus used Highway Patrol car for the EMS/EM Director in an amount not to exceed $24,000 to be paid from the EMS Special Equipment Fund. The motion carried unanimously following a second by Commissioner Wilson. Greg discussed the training/meeting information that he presented to the Commissioners.
County Clerk Alicia Showalter presented a letter for the Economic Development Director. The letter is for SCKEDD regarding the In-Kind Match for grant funds. Commissioner Wilson moved to authorize the chairman to sign the letter of support for SCKEDD. The motion carried unanimously following a second by Commissioner Wiens.
Zach Krause with KVK, Inc. appeared to discuss the replacement of the air conditioning unit for the Courthouse. Commissioners better understand the issue and will look at completing the project in early 2018. Zach will get some definite figures for the proposal and get it sent as soon as possible.
